Analysis of the Regulatory Barriers to the Use of Autonomous Ships.

By mandate from the Danish Maritime Authority, CORE Advokatfirma has, in co-operation with Rambøll Management Consulting A/S, performed an extensive analytic mapping of regulatory barriers for the introduction of autonomous ships. Key stakeholders in the Danish Maritime Cluster contributed to the project which resulted in a report which was submitted by Denmark as information paper (INF. 03) to IMO’s Maritime Safety Committee (MSC 99). Maritime Autonomous Surface Ships – Zooming in on civil liability and insurance.

In co-operation with the Nordic Association of Marine Insurers (Cefor), CORE Advokatfirma has drafted a report on civil liability and insurance matters connected with the introduction of autonomous ships. The report is based on interviews with key industry stakeholders in Denmark, Norway and England, including shipowners, system suppliers, equipment manufacturers, classification societies and insurers. The project received financial support from The Danish Maritime Fund: www.dendanskemaritimefond.dk. The final report is available for download below.
